Coronavirus: 3 suspected patients discharged in Lagos, case nationwide remains 1

– Lagos state, through its health commissioner, says three suspected patients of coronavirus have been promptly discharged

– The suspects were released after testing negative to the life-threatening epidemic

– As at now, no death has been recorded from the disease while the only case is an Italian who is reportedly responding to treatment Akin Abayomi, Lagos commissioner for health, said three persons suspected to be coronavirus patients tested negative and have been promptly discharged.

Abayomi made this known on Friday, March 6, while giving further updates on the state of coronavirus since the first case was recorded, Daily Trust reports.

The commissioner said one of the suspects is a Nigerian who travelled to France eight days ago and arrived Nigeria fours days later, adding that the suspect was subjected to medical check after developing a headache and respiratory problems. Abayomi gave the case of other two suspects as travellers from England and China who were quarantined after arriving in Nigeria as a measure towards curbing the spread of the disease.

He said their blood samples were collected after which they were certified free and discharged from the hospital.

Ijebuloaded.com notes that since its outbreak in China, coronavirus has been responsible for thousands of death with over 90,000 people across over 71 countries already put on the red line of the infection.

The first case of the epidemic was recorded in Nigeria after in Italian arrived Lagos with the virus.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, February 27, the Italian national, who worked as a consultant at Lafarge Africa PLC, returned from Milan to Lagos and was confirmed to be a carrier of the deadly disease.

People who had contact with the Italian were afterwards quarantined as part of measures to put the spread under control. As at now, only one case of coronavirus has been detected in Nigeria and there is no death causality as a result of the life-threatening disease.

Meanwhile, Ijebuloaded.com had reported that Lauretta Onochie, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, says the government refused to disclose the identity Italian man who tested positive to coronavirus in Nigeria due to privacy reason.

Onochie stated this through a post on her account on a micro-blogging platform Twitter on Saturday, March 7, in response to an early inquiry made by for minister of aviation and top Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Fani Kayode.
