Bill Amirault, who went into cardiac arrest during the Key West Half Marathon on January 15, used Facebook to create a heartfelt video seeking the woman, Amy Smythe, who had performed CPR and kept him alive until paramedics arrived.
Amirault wrote:
“Please help me find the person(s) that saved my life at the Key West, FL 1/2 Marathon on Sun Jan 15th. They provided CPR when my heart stopped until the EMTs arrive. Without them and the incredible medical staff, I wouldn’t be alive today. I want to personally thank them. Please share with all your friends and help me find them.”

The video, which was posted on January 20, immediately went viral, racking up over 1.4 million views and thousands of comments.
It only took 24 hours for one of Smythe’s friends to see the video and inform her that she was being sought by the man she had saved!
Two other medical professionals who had assisted Amirault were also found, although their names have not been made available.
Recalling the emotional moment, Smythe said:
“My girlfriend … called me: ‘You gotta check Facebook out!’ I was just so overwhelmed. I immediately was in tears.”
Awwww! Our hearts!
Amirault and Smythe said that their subsequent meeting over the phone was “joyful” and made them “appreciate the little things.”
Isn’t that just beautiful? Facebook must be thrilled some good has come out of its video service lately.
