Fantastic interception by Shaw! Barkley holds up on the left-hand side of the United penalty area before setting up Gueye over at the far post. It looks as if the midfielder is going to have a tap-in, but Shaw is there to make sure he can’t.
77′
Rojo goes close! Once again, Lingard is presented with an opportunity to send in a cross from the right wing, and this time it finds Rojo in front of goal. The centre-back does well to get his head to the ball but can’t guide it towards Robles, as it instead loops over the top of the crossbar.

  • It’s been a frustrating evening so far for United, who, like on the weekend, have dominated possession but struggled to cause too many problems for the Everton back line. Robles has been forced into making a couple of good saves to deny long-range efforts but, overall, hasn’t been tested as much as he would have been expecting, whilst, at the other end, the Toffees have impressed on the break, with Lukaku doing really well to hassle Rojo and Bailly when he can.

United push back once more and win themselves another free-kick, this time just a few yards outside of the box after Mirallas threw Lingard to the ground with a pull around the neck. • 24′
United quickly push forward from the restart as they desperately try to find a way back into the game, but they’re unable to find a way through the sea of blue shirts camped in front of them and, once again, an attempted attacking move comes to nothing.

The visitors’ midfielders fall asleep momentarily and allow the winger to get a shot away, but his effort ends up swerving several yards wide of the far post.
  • 10′
Ander Herrera shows good footwork as he weaves his way down the left flank. He does well to tee up Ibrahimovic, who then tries to set up Rashford in front of him, but the poked pass from the Swedish striker is a poor one and can only find Mason Holgate.
8′

1′
We’re off! Everton get us underway, attacking from right to left.

The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.

  • Meanwhile, Everton boss Ronald Koeman has made two alterations to the team that featured in their last outing, with Matthew Pennington and Dominic Calvert-Lewin making way for Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas as they revert to a back four.
  • Jose Mourinho has decided to make three changes to the United side that started the draw against West Brom on the weekend, with Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming into the starting line-up to replace Antonio Valencia, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford, respectively.
  • Everton substitutes: Stekelenburg, Kenny, Pennington, Williams, Calvert-Lewin, Lookman, Valencia.
  • Everton XI (4-3-3): Robles; Holgate, Jagielka, Williams, Baines; Davies, Barry, Gueye; Mirallas, Lukaku, Barkley.
  • Manchester United substitutes: Romero, Fosu-Mensah, Shaw, Darmian, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Martial.
  • Manchester United XI (4-3-3): De Gea; Young, Bailly, Rojo, Blind; Herrera, Carrick, Fellaini; Lingard, Ibrahimovic, Rashford.
  • There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this evening…
  • A win for Everton will move them equal on points with United (albeit having played two more games), but that’s something they haven’t managed to pull off at Old Trafford since October 2013. That’s the only one of their last 23 away league meetings against today’s opponents that has resulted in a victory, whilst the most recent game between the two sides ended in a narrow 1-1 draw thanks to a last-minute Leighton Baines penalty.
  • As for Everton, they’ve impressed under the watchful eye of Ronald Koeman this season but were toothless on the weekend, resulting in a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. Things had been going rather well before that, however, thanks to easy wins against West Brom and Hull City, but tonight could prove to be another tough test for the Toffees.
  • Luckily for United, they’re able to call on Zlatan Ibrahimovic once again now that the striker’s three-game ban has been served. The Swede has been sorely missed in front of goal, despite a few struggles of his own, and will join a side that can also welcome back Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba – the latter of whom starts on the substitutes’ bench. With Arsenal sitting just two points behind in sixth place, Jose Mourinho’s men can’t afford another slip up this evening.
  • Saturday’s game against West Bromwich Albion proved to be a rather drab and dreary affair for United, who looked toothless up front and, as a result, struggled to break down a well-organised Baggies back line. The two points that were arguably dropped dealt a big blow to the Red Devils’ hopes of finishing in the top four, and it leaves them desperately needing a victory from tonight’s clash.
  • Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Premier League game between Manchester United and Everton at Old Trafford.
