Cardi B took home the Album of the Year for her 2018 debut LP, Invasion of Privacy, at the 2019 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 23)
Cardi was visibly excited to receive the trophy. During her acceptance speech, which was given in front of an enthusiastic audience at Microsoft Theatre, she thanked her fans for making Invasion of Privacy three-times platinum.
In addition, Cardi thanked everyone who participated on the album including Kehlani, Chance The Rapper, YG and others. “I’m glad that I made an album that your sister, your mother, your grandmother like it, all you bitches be like aye-yi-ki-ki, thank you very much!” she told the crowd.
This is Cardi’s first award of the night. She can add this to her mantle of trophies that includes the seven Billboard Music Awards honors that she won in May and a Grammy statue for Best Rap Album that she nabbed back in February.
Cardi is still recovering from a recent surgical procedure, which she says caused her to miss out on millions of dollars because she had to cancel shows. Here’s to hoping her regular performance schedule in September.
