Mikel has spent 10 years with Chelsea since moving from Nowergian club, Lyn
Between the time you start reading this story and the time you end, John Mikel Obi would have earned close to N35,000.
This is courtesy of a bumper deal he has just signed with Chinese club Tianjin TEDA FC, thus becoming the latest European-based player to join the Chinese Super League.
Mikel will earn just around N70m per week with the Far East club.
Mikel has spent 10 years with Chelsea since moving from Nowergian club, Lyn in a protracted transfer saga but has recently struggled to find playing time under Chelsea coach, Antonio Conte.
In a statement he released this morning, Mikel said, ‘As you will know, I haven’t featured as much this season as I would have liked, and at 29 I still have many years in the game ahead of me. With this in mind, I feel now is the time to seek a new challenge. I’m delighted to be joining Tianjin TEDA FC in China, at a time that the Chinese Super League is really taking off, and I look forward to helping Tianjin TEDA FC continue to grow both on and off the pitch in the next few years.’
