Sophie Turner is taking centre stage in The X-Men spin-off Dark Phoenix and Fox have finally released the movie’s official trailer. She stars as Jean Grey in the movie which follows her relationship to the Phoenix, a powerful cosmic entity that manifests itself in Jean’s body.
And it seems all that power has Jean struggling to cope as she battles to keep the Phoenix from hurting her loved ones and the cosmic in check. Obviously that poses a problem for the rest of the X-Men who are hell bent on protecting Jean, even when she loses control and ‘bad things happen to the people she loves’.
They’re forced to go up against not only one of the most powerful villains they have ever faced, but their best friend. Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, James McAvoy’s Professor X, Tye Sheridan’s Cyclops, and Evan Peter’s Quicksilver all make a return in the movie, along with Nicholas Hoult as Beast.
Jessica Chastain plays Smith – the movie’s villain who is determined to lead Jean down a path of darkness. The trailer is sure to get X-Men fans excited, especially now Dark Phoenix has finally all come together after a rocky start.
Fans were left a little concerned after the movie was pushed back from a summer 2018 release due to reshoots. It was rescheduled to drop in February 2019, before being postponed again and confirmed for 7 June 2019.
An X-Men fan had also slammed the film for being ‘underwhelming’ and fundamentally a repeat of the much-derided X3 (the last attempt at pushing the iconic Marvel comics saga to the big screen), after they claiming they saw a test screening of it.
Sophie’s co-star Evan brushed aside the controversy by saying the film will be a ‘darker’ and more ‘powerful’ affair than previous X-Men films. He teased: ‘I think it’s gonna be darker than we’re used to.
It’s gonna be a change, but it’s gonna be fun for everybody.’
