[News] : Man to die by hanging for killing girlfriend

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced to death by hanging one Azubuike Ogonor from Ahoada Local Council of the state, for executing his better half, Miss Blessing Iyumame.

The trial judge, Justice Chioma Ada Okorie, said the convict, Ogonor, in his confession booth explanations made in police and jail cells, admitted to have carried out the wrongdoing by pouring petrol on the casualty and touched off it with matches, which consumed and, thus, prompted to her demise.

The court noted amid trial that the convict and casualty did not have issues of misconception prior that could have prompted to the assault, having spent the night together calmly on the portentous day.

As indicated by the court, Ogonor set Iyumame on fire after he saw her in organization of another man, expecting that his better half may forsake him.

It was accumulated that when the occurrence happened in the convict’s room, it was a neighbor that acted the hero and surged her to a healing center in Ahoada, before Iyumame mother took her to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), where she later passed on.
