Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode has graduated no fewer than 2,261 students from different courses at its 8th convocation ceremony. The University, however, offered automatic employment to the overall best graduating student, Ogunkomaya Bukola who scored 4.84 as her Cummulative grade point.
Announcing the automatic employment, the Vice Chancellor of the first University of Education in Nigeria Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade said the institution was convinced that Ogunkomaya would he an asset to the institution. The University also awarded honourary Doctorate degrees to the medical doctor who prevented the spread of Ebola virus, late Stella Adadevoh and former President and Chairman of Council, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Segun Aina for their contributions to the development of the country. Ogunkomaya, a 26-year-old graduate of Biological Science, said she gained admission into TASUED through direct enter after she studied Biology Integrated at Federal Medical Centre , Abeokuta in 2013 . The Vice Chancellor in her speech said the University was churning out 1,586 full time graduates for 2015/2016 and 567 part time graduates of 2014/2015 . She also said the University graduated 86 students of Masters in Education programme while only 22 Post graduate diploma in Education students graduated. While speaking with newsmen after he was confered with honorary doctorate award in Business Education, Aina urged the government to come up with education policy to solve the problem of unemployment. Aina lamented that so many things are wrong with the education system which produced unemployed graduates, saying, skills and competence should be inculcated. He said “Some things are wrong with education system, because most of our graduates are not employed. 40 to 50 years ago people hot jobs immediately they finished their education, but, it is not happening, it means some things are wrong , we cannot keep on doing same things and expect different results. “There are a lot of areas skills are needed, lack of good direction, we keep on churning graduates every year without employment. Government should come up with education policy inculcate in them skills and competence. Meanwhile, the Ogun state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who was represented by his deputy, Yetunde Onanuga commended the management of the institution for its efforts at improving the standard of education in the state.
