FIVE minutes to go and City are really running out of time to keep their Champions League dream alive. Guardiola has NEVER went out of this competition at this stage with Barcelona and Bayern Munich so the disappointments will be fresh for him too, but there is still time left!
  • 83′
    SubstitutionGaël ClichyKelechi Promise Iheanacho
Guardiola follows suit and makes his opening change, and no surprises to see a striker coming on in the form of Kelechi Iheanacho, who certainly has a good goals-to-games ratio. How they could do with another here! He replaces Clichy.
  • 81′
SubstitutionKylian Mbappe LottinJoão Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho
Second substitution of the match from Jardim and this is, understandably, a much more pragmatic one than he is used to. Entering the action is holding midfielder, Joao Moutinho, and he will replace the impressive Mbappe, who again has lit up the pitch at times.
  • 79′
So the pendulum swings again in favour of Monaco as, at the moment, they are currently heading through due to the amount of away goals they scored at the Etihad. However, here come City looking for their seventh goal of the tie!
  • 77′
    Assist Thomas Lemar
Lovely assist from Lemar from the set-piece.
  • 77′
    Goal Tiémoué Bakayoko
    Goal Tiémoué Bakayoko
  • 77′
    Assist Thomas Lemar
    Assist Thomas Lemar
  • 74′
    Yellow Card Raheem Shaquille Sterling
Another booking now, and it is a damaging one for Manchester City as Sterling will now miss the first leg of the quarter-final. That is if the Citizens do indeed get there, of course!
  • 73′
Guardiola really is something else. His side are currently protecting a lead away from home in the Champions League but he is in the dugout shouting at them to continue bombing forward for more goals! Incredible – he clearly thinks this Monaco side have another goal in them!
  • 71′
    Goal Leroy Sané
    Goal Leroy Sané
  • 69′
    SubstitutionAndrea RaggiAlmamy Touré
First change of the match comes from Jardim and it sees Raggi, who has looked a bit ragged up against Sane in recent minutes, replaced by Almamy Toure.
  • 67′
OH THAT IS AWFUL FROM SANE! The former Schalke man, who has become increasingly prominent as time has gone on, gets into another brilliant position near the byline on the left wing. However, with Aguero waiting for the pass, he goes for goal from a ridiculous angle with Subasic coming out, only to see his attempt slam into the side netting.
65′
VITAL SAVE FROM SUBASIC! Fernandinho clips a lovely ball over the top of the opposition defence and Silva collects to feet before jinking inside and then setting up Aguero. The City striker finds himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but comes out second best as the Monaco stopper remains big to make the block!
  • 63′
Jardim will be fairly worried at how much the energy levels of Monaco have dropped since the break as the second period has been all-City. The hosts are still going through as it stands, but Guardiola’s men are playing with an increased tempo going forward now.
  • 61′
WHAT A SITTER FROM AGUERO! Sane exchanges a lovely one-two with Silva down the left flank and the bursts into the box before firing a cross to the edge of the six-yard box. The Argentine meets it, but only succeeds in sending an attempt over the bar! Looked like it came off his shin!
  • 59′
    Yellow Card Tiémoué Bakayoko
Two bookings in quick succession as Bakayoko now sees yellow for a high boot on Fernandinho.
  • 58′
    Yellow Card Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne goes into the book now, and deservedly so as he pulls back Bakayoko in the middle of midfield.
  • 56′
De Bruyne picks out an absolutely fabulous, defence-splitting pass in behind the full-back for Sterling who runs in behind and hits the byline. The former Liverpool man looks indecisive and ends up attempting to pick out Aguero, but the ball is poor which means the Argentine is beaten to the ball by Raggi! That was a HUGE chance!
  • 54′
This really has been a battle of the speed demons down the right wing. Sterling and Mendy have been involved in the entertaining duel, and it is fair to say the latter is coming out on top by far. As legs begin to tire, the Englishman can be incredibly dangerous, though.
  • 52′
One noticeble change from City is that De Bruyne appears to be playing much deeper than in the opening 45 minutes, presumably to give Fernandinho some help in those central areas. The extra body is meaning that the space is squeezed for those Monaco attacks.
  • 50′
Sane hasn’t been that effective so far but manages to burst down the left wing for the first time in the game here. The German opens up that considerable stride forward, but Sidibe is no slouch himself and quickly gets back to force City into the retreat. The visitors still retain the ball, though.
  • 48′
Much, much better from Manchester City in the early stages of this second half as they already look more poised and confident in possession. Indeed, the Monaco fans are booing Guardiola’s men as they just attempt to take the sting out of proceedings with their patient passing.
46′
The second period is under way.
  • Half-time. Goals were expected in this clash, and we have two so far, both going to Monaco as the home side go into the break with a 2-0 lead over Manchester City. Five-five on aggregate currently, with the French side set to progress on away goals, but the goalscoring isn’t finished yet surely?
  • 43′
Normally City pride themselves on their possession play but it has been pretty awful so far largely due to Monaco pressing with such intensity. Fernandinho needs help in those central areas, but the five players ahead of him just cannot get into this.
  • 41′
Professional play from Leonardo Jardim’s charges as they are just running down the half-time clock with some patient passing in the middle of the park. They could be just testing City’s concentration before pouncing with the pace of Mbappe in behind.
  • 39′
Guardiola will be furious at the application of his players in this first half. Admittedly, they haven’t played THAT bad, but Monaco are just having their way with the Premier League side and it really doesn’t look like two goals will be the end of their ambitions going forward.
37′
The confidence is flowing with gusto among the Monaco ranks at the moment and this is summed up by Bernardo Silva who drifts past a couple of challenges with some absolutely gorgeous touches. The Portuguese youngster really is one of the most talented players in Europe at the moment!
  • 35′
We may only be 35 minutes into the game, but Subasic will be wondering just how he has managed to get such a quiet night between the sticks. Sane, Aguero, Sterling, Silva, and De Bruyne have all barely had an affect on proceedings so far.
  • 33′
It is important that City keep their heads here as they really cannot afford to go a man down against these Monaco players. Clichy is guilty of a little bit if indiscipline as he hacks away at Silva near the corner flag, but is fortunate to come out of the altercation with just the foul conceded and not the yellow.
  • 31′
Normally when you go two goals down it is definite panic stations, but City definitely have the quality to at the very least get back on level terms here. They just need to control the ball a bit more and be less lackadaisical at the back.
  • 29′
    Assist Benjamin Mendy
One of the best assists you will see this season from Mendy!
  • 29′
    Goal Fábio Henrique Tavares
GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL FOR MONACO! The hosts double the lead! Mendy gets into plenty of space down the left and then fires an absolutely perfect, low cross into the centre of the box near the penalty spot. Fabinho displays lovely composure to guide a cracking fiinish home! Two-nil!
  • 28′
FANTASTIC tackle from Raggi! We get our first real glimpse of De Bruyne as the Belgian bursts his way in behind the opposition defence, poised to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The strike nearly comes, but the Italian backline comes with with a superb goal-saving challenge!
  • 27′
It will be interesting to see how City’s tactics progress as the game goes on. Guardiola spoke pre-match about how his side would attack from the get-go, but it really hasn’t worked out that way with Monaco enjoying freedom on the ball in defence without too much pressure.
  • 25′
The game has just started to calm down ever-so-slightly which will come as a form of mercy to City who have been swallowed up by Monaco’s pressing up until now. Surely the home side can’t keep this intensity it as the City defence aren’t being given a SECOND on the ball.
  • 23′
We are just beyond the midway point of the first half now and it has been a cracking encounter as we all expected. City aren’t firing on all cylinders as of yet, but it was indeed their spectacular second half performance in the first leg which ultimately saw them win 5-3 so no need to panic yet.
  • 21′
Mendy has got one hell of an engine on him and will get up and down that left wing all game. This time, the full-back receives a neat pass from Mbappe before speedily eating up the space ahead, but the resulting cross into the box, although good, is put behind for a corner-kick via a Kolarov clearance.
  • 19′
Guardiola’s men really need a period of sustained possession here as Monaco are just continually flooding forward with so many players. Aguero hasn’t had a sniff so far, but it will be important that he manages to hold up the play in the final third when he gets in. Don’t forget, City scored five against this Monaco defence.
  • 17′
City are losing the ball in terrible areas at the moment and again it is Fernandinho who is the guilty party. Germain pounces on a mistake from the Brazilian this time to turn sharply before driving into space, but he resulting shot on goal from the Monaco captain is sent high into the stands.
  • 15′
GOOOOAAAAAAALLL FOR MONACO! WAIT! NO! OFFSIDE! Mbappe runs away for a celebration thinking he has just netted his second of the match following a blistering finish into the corner, but the play is quickly brought back. The linesman correctly raised his flag.
  • 13′
Sterling manages to break free beyond a couple of challenges down the right-hand side, but even after utilising his pace to get into space he eventually finds himself outnumbered. The towering figure of Bakayoko then comes in to bully the Englishman off of possession.
  • 11′
    Yellow Card Bacary Sagna
First booking of the match now and it is a slightly harsh one on Sagna as he just gets to the ball a little later than Silva before putting the Portuguese up in the air. There was no malice involved, but he sees yellow regardless.
  • 10′
City just need to recover some solidity and concentration now as they are currently being overrun basically every time Monaco bomb forward. If they can manage to get the ball, however, then there is acres of space in behind the opposition defence to take advantage of.
  • 8′
    Goal Kylian Mbappe Lottin
GOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLL FOR MONACO! The hosts open the scoring and the crowd goes wild! Bernardo Silva picks up a clearance on the left wing following some good work by Mendy and subsequently fires a low cross to the front post. Mbappe is there to fire home from close range! One-nil.
  • 8′
Assist Bernardo Mota Veiga de Carvalho e Silva
    Superb assist from Silva!
  • 7′
SAAAAAVE FROM CABALLERO! Fernandinho goes on an ill-advised venture into the packed midfield and eventually surrenders possession. Via a team-mate pass, Mbappe drives forward through the middle with pace but only to see his firm strike solidly saved by the City stopper!
  • 5′
Monaco are playing with fire here as their defensive line is basically on the halfway line. Yes, they need to score at least two tonight, but if the space continues to be left in behind then one of Sane, Aguero, or Sterling will exploit it.
  • 3′
Well, as probably expected, it has been an electric start to proceedings here and both sides are showing no signs of any defensive mentality in the opening stages. Both goalkeepers are just smashing long balls into space for the pacey attackers to try and latch on to.
  • 1′

  • Monaco subs: De Sanctis, Diallo, Touré, Jorge, Moutinho, Dirar, Cardona

  • TEAM NEWS…
  • The winners of this tie will of course make it into the quarter-final draw which takes place on Friday. Manchester City actually made it to to the last four of the competition last season under Manuel Pellegrini, but were narrowly knocked out by Real Madrid after a tight 1-0 aggregate scoreline over both legs. Monaco made it to the final back in 2004, but came undone against FC Porto, then managed by Jose Mourinho.
  • There were arguably three stars of the show in the first leg. Sergio Aguero and Radamel Falcao both scored a brace, with the latter’s second particularly glorious, but the other player who shone was 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe of Monaco, who got on the scoresheet himself with a cracking goal and gave the City defence a torrid time with his speed and movement.
  • A few weeks ago, the stage was set at the Etihad Stadium for the first leg of this tie between the team from the French principality and Pep Guardiola’s charges, and what unfolded was nothing short of spectacular. Eight goals in total were scored on the night as City ran out 5-3 winners, but Monaco actually took the lead not once but twice so they will certainly not be thinking this is all done and dusted before this evening.
  • Good evening football fans! Welcome to LIVE coverage of the UEFA Champions League last-16 second-leg clash between Monaco and Manchester City from the Stade Louis II.
